Why Locally Sourced Wedding Menus Are Worth It

At Long Barn, we love a wedding that feels grounded in the season and the soil beneath our feet. From the flowers on the tables to the fizz in your glass, the food on your plate to the wild blooms by the barn doors, every detail has the potential to tell a story. For us, the most compelling stories are the ones closest to home.

Here’s why locally sourced wedding catering is worth it, and why we think it’s the most beautiful way to honour the place where you say “I do.”

Flavour That Speaks for Itself

Fresh food is alive! When ingredients are picked in their prime, just miles from where they’re prepared, that vibrancy and difference in taste is unmistakable. Our in-house caterers Orchard Kitchen create every menu using seasonal, locally sourced produce from within a 30-mile radius (wherever possible).

That might mean slow-cooked lamb from Penhein Farm in Caldicot, free-range pork from right here at Humble by Nature, heritage vegetables from The Square Farm Shop in Monmouth, or orchard fruits from the fruit trees that surround Long Barn for dessert. Pair that with sparkling wine from our neighbours at The Dell Vineyard or a botanical aperitif from Silver Circle Distillery, and your meal becomes a true celebration of Monmouthshire’s finest.

A True Taste of Monmouthshire

Long Barn sits in the heart of a region known as the food capital of Wales. It’s rolling farmland, independent growers, and passionate producers, provide us with such an abundance on our doorstep, we believe your wedding should be a reflection of that richness.

Whether it’s garden herbs grown metres from the kitchen, crusty sourdough from a local bakery, or wildflowers hand-picked by Haze Flowers (our wonderful neighbour here at Long Barn), every element of your day can be rooted in place. We’ve been told in the past that it felt especially meaningful for guests travelling from further afield to taste, smell and experience the countryside that surrounds them.

Sustainable, Thoughtful and Local

Working with local producers is about connection. We are proud to partner with people who share our values of care, sustainability and seasonality.

Choosing local means lower food miles, less packaging and a far lighter footprint. But it also means real people, real relationships and a wedding that supports the local rural economy in a way that truly gives back. Something that is more important now than ever before. Whether it’s cheese from the Wye Valley, herbs from the garden or honey from nearby hives, every ingredient has a story, and none of them begin in a warehouse.

Menus Made with Care

Orchard Kitchen and their expert in-house catering team has years of experience and an eye for seasonal detail. They craft bespoke menus tailored to each couple, rooted in the landscape and stoked full with flavour.

From generous feasting tables to elegant three-course suppers, Orchard Kitchen’s dishes are created using ingredients grown or reared within our local community wherever possible. Penhein lamb, Humble by Nature pork, Square Farm vegetables, The Dell wine… the list goes on. They’ll even forage from the surrounding fields if the season calls for it. A summer wedding might see platters of heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, and grilled courgette ribbons, with jugs of homemade elderflower cordial on hand. In autumn, it could be cider-braised pork, spiced squash, and apple crumble using fruit from the surrounding orchards.

“Seasonal doesn’t mean simple, it means food that’s timely, beautiful, and in sync with the world outside our window.”
